Plastics

Through the Plastics module, students learn about the past and present uses of plastics and become familiar with its various chemical properties. Students use injection and vacuum forming molds to create plastic parts. They also examine environmental-related issues.

Learning Objectives

• Learn about the history, modern-day uses, chemical properties, types and manufacturing process of plastics.

• Gain an understanding of polymers and the polymerization process.

• Analyze and evaluate environmental issues relating to to the manufacture, use and future of plastics.

Practical Experience

• Use a plastic vacuum forming machine to create a sign.

• Use an injection molding machine to produce plastic parts.
